Congrats on your escape from Twitter. Just thought I'd toss out the opinion that the best platform for intelligent conversations remains old fashioned forum software. Blog comments are way better than social media sites, but forums remain king, imho. Not for everything, just for in depth, ongoing, intelligent conversations.
