Easy to beat up on science about integrity because we're so damn open about our failures and mistakes. We value disclosure and harsh interrogation of error. I'd like to see much more attention paid to the lack of integrity in business, government, the media and other institutions that have been so fully captured by the oligarchs. Sadly, with the shift of our younger PhDs from "academic" (discovery) science to "industry", the corrupting effects of corporate money will surely have a degrading effect on scientific ethics.

There is certainly a lot of work being done on maintaining scientific integrity in government, and I'm starting to cover it in a new newsletter called SciLight. But this research integrity issue is certainly a part of scientific integrity, and I'm definitely concerned about how AI will affect both of these issues.
